Your smile is a vital feature of your facial appearance. It affects how people see you and what they think about you. It has a significant impact on your levels of self-confidence and how you feel about yourself. It is challenging for someone you interact with not to notice your smile. Many people experience several types of teeth problems, whether it be due to injury or accident, or a congenital disability. The development of dentures in Falls Church has revolutionized the dental industry due to its applicability and suitability to various teeth problems.

    What are Dental Dentures?

Dentures are removable teeth replacements for lost teeth and their surrounding tissues. Dentures are usually of two types,i.e., partial and complete dentures. Partial dentures are used when several natural teeth are missing, while complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing.

    Complete Dentures

There are two types, namely immediate and conventional. Conventional dentures are made after your teeth have been removed and the tissues of your gums have started to heal. They are placed eight to twelve weeks after your teeth have been removed.

Immediate dentures, unlike conventional dentures, are made prior and can be placed as soon as the teeth have been removed. The patient, therefore, does not have to be without teeth as they heal. However, the gums and bones shrink over time when recovering after removing your teeth. This puts immediate dentures at a disadvantage compared to conventional dentures since they may require more adjustments for proper fitting during healing. Therefore, they should be used as a temporary solution while you wait for the traditional dentures to be made. For long-term smile restoration, treatments like Invisalign Pleasanton can also help align teeth discreetly and effectively.

    Partial Dentures

This is a removable bridge containing replacement teeth placed on a pink or gum-colored plastic base connected by metal inside to hold the dentures in place in your mouth. These dentures are applicable when natural teeth remain in the lower or upper jaw.

A fixed bridge replaces one or more lost teeth by putting crowns on the teeth on each side of the space and putting artificial teeth on them. The bridge is thus cemented into place. Partial dentures complete the spaces from the missing teeth and keep the other teeth from switching positions. A precision partial denture is removable and contains internal attachments, not clasps attached to the adjacent crowns for a more natural-looking appearance.

The development process of making dentures takes several appointments spanning a range of several weeks. Once your dentists decide on the type of dentures you will be getting, the general steps are:

    • Making several impressions of your jaw and taking measurements of how your jaw relate to each other and how much space is between them
    • Creating a model made of wax or plastic in the same position and shape of the denture to be made
    • Cast a final denture
    • Making adjustments

Dentures are a significant technological advancement in the dental industry. They enable you to maintain a good appearance despite the accident or injuries that may cause you to lose your teeth.
